What a nice tribute to a wonderful person! I enjoyed the pictures, and it was fun to see Little Dog again. Cliff certainly was loved and had a very full life!

Cliff was a wonderful man. I only wish I had kept in contact with him more. What a pleasant surprise to have him attend my wedding in Wisconsin. I'll miss him.

Dear Smedley Cousins, I would like to let you know that my prayers and deepest sympathy are with you all. It is in times like these God never meant for us to face the tough times alone...that's why he gave us each other. Thanks, Cousin Russ, for taking the time to call me and share so many special thoughts about your "Big Brother", Cliff. I know how special he must have been to you. Cousin, Ruth, in Spring Hill, FL

In January 1985 my little daughter Annie and I had the blessed good fortune of becoming Cliff's neighbors. I made a friend for life the day I met him. That first spring he commenced to digging about 20 holes in our garden and transplanting raspberries from his garden to mine. He also made a swing for Annie in the big Cedar tree outside our back door. Cliff had such a passion for life, and for helping people. I admire him so much for volunteering to drive other seniors to their doctor appointments, and he didn't even want to take the gas money for it. After Annie grew up my son Jesse came along, and Cliff welcomed him to go snake huntin' all summer long on his property, throughout many summers. He took us to Moses Lake to Jana and Chuck's to ride in the potato trucks and to see his friend with the big model trains. He was the most generous, thoughtful man I have ever met, and I miss him so much. You Smedley's are a wonderful clan. Cliff, remember the full moons coming up over Mount Si from your pasture, how beautiful a memory. Goodbye to my dear friend.

UNCLE CLIFF-THIS IS THE THIRD COMMENT I HAVE MADE AND NONE OF THEM DO HIM JUSTICE. I HAD SO MUCH FUN WITH MY UNCLE. HE WAS SO GOOD WITH TORI-HELPING HER RIDE HORSES WHEN SHE WAS LITTLE. I'LL NEVER FORGET THE TIME SHE PUSHED THE HORSE UP AGAINST A FENCE,CLIMBED ON AND TOOK OFF BAREBACK AROUND THE HOUSE.I DON'T KNOW IF WE WERE MORE SCARED OR MAD. JOE WATT CANYON IS ONE OF MY FONDEST MEMORIES-WE SPENT MANY YEARS THERE. HE TAUGHT BLAKE AND I HOW TO HUNT AND APPRECIATE THE OUTDOORS.IT WAS ALWAYS TERRIFIC BEING IN CAMP WITH THE "MAYOR" AND EVERYONE KNEW HIM. WE ALSO GOLFED, DRANK BEER AND IN GENERAL HAD A GOOD TIME. HE CALLED ME SEVERAL TIMES LAST MONTH WHEN I WAS IN HAWAII AND I NOW THINK IT WAS HIS WAY TO SAY "GOODBYE". GOODBYE GOOD BUDDY-I WILL MISS YOU AND I THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES. WHAT A WONDERFUL BIG BROTHER. HE "LEFT" US TO GO FISHING BUT HE LEFT US OUR CHILDHOOD MEMORIES. CLIFF MADE ONE OF MY FIRST MODES OF TRANSPORTATION.HE USED HIS ROLLER SKATES ON THE BOTTOM OF AN APPLE CRATE,ATTACHED HANDLES AND TAUGHT ME HOW TO USE IT. AS I WENT AROUND THE CORNER I LOOKED BACK,HE HAD A GRIN ON HIS FACE "SO LONG SIS".WE USED TO PLAY A GAME CALLED FOX AND HOUNDS. AS THE FOX (USUALLY ME) I SCATTERED TORN PIECES OF PAPER ALONG THE WAY, INTO THE WOODS. WHEN THE HOUNDS CAME THEY TRIED TO FOLLOW THE TRAIL AND FIND THE FOX. WHEN IT WAS CLIFF'S TURN HE WOULDN'T LEAVE A PAPER TRAIL AND I WOULD SPEND HOURS LOOKING FOR HIM.WOULDN'T YOU THINK WITH THE GAMES HE PLAYED ON ME I WOULD HAVE CAUGHT ON? NOT ME, I LOVED MY BIG BROTHER AND WANTED TO BE WITH HIM ALL THE TIME. I WILL MISS YOU, SIS

It has been several days since my big brother left us. My heart is still filled with sorrow., for all of the things I now wish Cliff and I could of been doing. It was on a trip he made to be with us in Tucson on a very nice hike to Seven Fallls it was like he and I had done in the past. He so loved the out doors. My staying with him at Copper Mt lookout after a 11 mile hike and spend a very lighting struck night watching for forest fires. Cliff I will often think of the times we had growing up in the depresion, so many of us were in the same boat we did not even know we were poor we just made up our own games but boy did we have fun. Now I will just have to live with those good memories. I can recall on Sunday nights listening to Sam Hayes the Richfield reporter. But we did NOT have a radio, yes you had a Crystal set and cats paw to find the station, and you would let me hae ONE ear phone and you the other. Those are the times I will always think of. The great times we had playing ball for our chuch as well as Bethlem Steel. You always pitched and I at 3rd base. Those were the days our Mom and the Art Engmans and Ray Mann's often came to our games but two young girls were always there,Trudy and Effie. Will sign off and just think of what you have always ment to both Sis and Russ.

Dear Family and friends, Cliff was a unique man. He and I shared some fun road trips together. Mt. Baker was a very sharing experience with Cliff. I can only hope that I will be as sharp and unique as the man I called my dear friend, Cliff. I miss you everyday, can't wait to see you again. We will get that trip in to the West! Love always, Debi

I appreciate the phone call and you have my deepest sypathy in the loss of my cousin that I never met. We all do look a lot alike. I look like my father Jesse Smedley and my Uncle Jeff Smedley. Wish I could get to know some of my relatives in Seattle. My youngest daughter, Jennifer Michelle had planned to come to Seattle one day, but I lost her in an automobile accident 5-26-99. Again I am truly sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Mary

I will certainly miss my very dear friend, Cliff. We spend many, many good times together. I met Cliff will working at Bethlehem and had great times playing together at LaPush, their home and many other good times. My late husband, Chuck, was one of Cliff's best friends and they spent a lot of time together fishing, cutting work and tipping a cold can of beer. I am sure they are remembering the good times now.

I sent Uncle Cliff a card shortly before he died letting him know how much fun us city kids had coming out to his home when we were growing up in the 50s. It was a treat to visit the cousins in the country even when that meant getting shocked by the electric fence. Lots of good memories.
